What this template is
This is a serial number and lot registry template for hardware teams.
Use it to track:
- Products and SKUs
- Manufacturing lots
So you always know what was built, when, where, and in which batch.
What’s inside
- Product list – your products, SKUs, and product IDs
- Lot registry – lot IDs, dates, plants, quantities, and changes vs previous lots
- Serial map – serial number ranges tied to each lot
- Sample data – fictional examples to show how it works
How to use it
- Replace sample products with your actual products/SKUs
- Define your serial format (prefixes, length, encoding rules) in the template
- Log every new lot: date, plant, qty, and what changed vs the previous lot
- Generate serial ranges for each lot and keep them fixed once shipped
- Use the registry when handling RMAs, support tickets, defects, and audits
Practical tips
- Store this file in a shared, backed-up location
- Treat past lots as read-only records
- Use the same product IDs and lot IDs across ERP/logistics/support/etc
- Update the registry before you send the PO to the factory
